Policy Win: EU Parliament’s International Trade Committee Members Supported Extension of EU’s Suspension of Import Duties on Ukrainian Exports

Policy Win: EU Parliament’s International Trade Committee Members Supported Extension of EU’s Suspension of Import Duties on Ukrainian Exports

On April 27, 2023, Members of the International Trade Committee of the EU Parliament gave the green light for another one-year suspension of EU import duties on Ukrainian exports to support the Ukrainian economy.

This is a continuation of the EU's unwavering support for Ukraine's economy and helps alleviate the difficult situation that Ukrainian producers and exporters face because of Russia's brutal war in Ukraine.

The draft report is scheduled to be voted by all EU MPs during the 8-11 May plenary session, and the EU Council also has to approve the initiative.

The implementation of these measures is pivotal in enhancing Ukraine's resilience both in the present and for future endeavors towards advancing Ukraine's gradual integration into the EU internal market. The complete abolition of tariffs allowed Ukrainian businesses to increase exports to the EU – for 2022, this indicator amounted to USD 27.9 billion, which is 63% of last year's exports.

AmCham Ukraine has appealed to international partners to extend the mentioned measures. We are grateful for the consistent support of Ukrainian businesses and eagerly anticipating the final approval of the decision.

The business community is grateful to Yulia Svyrydenko, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Economy of Ukraine, Taras Kachka, Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine – Trade Representative of Ukraine, and the entire team of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine for their efforts to continue trade liberalization measures.
