Policy Progress: Ministry of Economy Published Draft Law “On Consumers Rights Protection”

The Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture (the Ministry of Economy) published for public discussion the Draft Law “On Consumers Rights Protection,” which, among other things, regulates labeling requirements for non-food products.

Experts of the Chamber Consumer Goods Committee took an active part in the respective working group under the Ministry of Economy, providing tangible input to the wording of the current version of the Draft Law.

We welcome the inclusion of the Chamber proposals to the Draft Law in terms of goods labeling (data on the country of origin or production, indication of date of manufacture, final date of consumption or expiration date, information on the content of harmful substances, etc.). This will ensure a balanced approach to consumer protection and business competitiveness, taking into account the best European and international regulatory practices.

At the same time, the improvement of certain provisions of Draft Law is in further focus of the Chamber member companies’ experts. We will continue advocating for a regulatory friendly environment for the business.
