On December 2, 2020, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted in the first reading the Draft Law #2289 "On Amendments to Article 4 of the Law of Ukraine "On Pesticides and Agrochemicals" on Import of Pesticides into the Customs Territory of Ukraine" dated October 18, 2019 (Draft Law).
This Draft Law aims at unblocking the import of samples of innovative plant protection products for research and state testing by amending Article 4 of the Law of Ukraine "On Pesticides and Agrochemicals." The adoption of the Draft Law will have a significant economic effect through the resumption of investment in research activities in the field of plant protection products, and a positive environmental impact is projected.
Opening the access to innovative plant protection products will unlock scientific research and state tests that, in turn, will enable Ukrainian farmers to use next-generation products, thus increasing the competitiveness of their agricultural products and enabling them to respond to the latest pest challenges as early as possible.
The American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine welcomes passing the Draft Law #2289 in the first reading and supports its further adoption.
