Policy Progress: Parliament Passed Draft Law #4554 regarding Baby Food Regulation in the First Reading

On June 30, 2021, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed in the first reading the Draft Law #4554 “On Amendments to Some Legislative Acts of Ukraine to Bring the Baby Food Legislation of Ukraine in Line with the Requirements of EU Legislation” dated December 29, 2020 (Draft Law).

The Draft Law aims at harmonization of baby food legislation in Ukraine with EU regulations by recognizing the Law of Ukraine “On Baby Food” as invalid and amending certain Laws of Ukraine regulating food safety and quality, state control in the sphere, healthcare, advertising.

Previously, the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine addressed the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine asking to define the Draft Law as a priority and support passing it as a basis for further improvement before the second reading.

Therefore, the Chamber welcomes passing the Draft Law #4554 in the first reading and its member companies’ experts will continue to work on Draft Law’s improvement in the course of its preparation to the second reading.
