Policy Progress: Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture Developed the Draft Law on Temporary Exemption of White Sugar from Import Duty

Policy Progress: Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture Developed the Draft Law on Temporary Exemption of White Sugar from Import Duty

On April 20, the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture (Ministry) published Draft Law amending the Customs Code regarding a temporary exemption from import duty of white sugar imported into the customs territory of Ukraine (Draft Law).

Adoption of the amendments proposed by the Draft Law will help to solve several issues, including the shortages of white sugar on the domestic market, which will ensure an uninterrupted production of sugar-containing products.

The Chamber addressed the issue to the Ministry and Parliamentary Committee on Financial Issues, Tax and Customs Policy. We welcome consideration of the Chamber proposal on a temporary reduction of the duty rate. We would like to thank Chamber Food & Beverage Committee Co-Chairs and all Chamber members who were actively involved in this advocacy process for their contribution. The Chamber will continue its work to reduce trade barriers and improve trade facilitation.
